Daily reflection _ invest in life

INVEST IN LIFE
Where do you and I invest our lives? Take the time today to read and reflect on the Scriptures. What are they saying to us and how do they challenge us?
Deacon John Ruscheinsky
In the lives of the Ninevites and the Apostles, today's Scripture has examples of immediate repentance and turning to follow God. We, too, are challenged to make a brief examination of conscience and identify that which we need to repent. We may want to ask ourselves these questions, "What do I need to do to get back on track? Where have I had difficulty following God's ways?"
Jesus Christ tells us in this Sunday's Gospel, "The Kingdom of God is at hand! Repent and believe in the Gospel" (Mk. 1: 15). This Gospel could include our heavenly Father's complete message of the Old and New Testaments. Usually, the word "Gospel" refers to the four Gospels of the New Testament: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John and especially to whatever Jesus said and did. Jesus tells us to accept the Good News. Then we will discover that the spiritual Kngdom of God is at hand. To us Catholics the words and actions of Jesus are so important that we read parts of them at every Mass. We are surrounded by hearing His words read to us through the Gospels and contemplating His actions that are full of meaning and example. Take the time today to read and reflect on the Scriptures. What are they saying to us and how do they challenge us?
In today's Responsorial Psalm we acclaim, "Teach me Your ways, O Lord" (Ps. 25: 4). God has loved us for a long time and with mercy and kindness. What is most important is that we come to know His words and grow in His wisdom.
We have the opportunity to make another choice of doing what is right and good. May we spend time in prayer and penance for life. We, Catholics, are asked to do what we can to acknowledge the gross violation of human dignity that legal abortions uphold. Let us pray, and let us do penance. What is life worth to us? What are we willing to sacrifice to uphold its sacred character? Wow! A lot of questions today...
