SEEK GOD IN THE TINY SOUND
As followers of
Jesus Christ, we are a holy people responsible for paying attention to the
"whisper" of truth, justice, kindness and peace.
In
the first reading today, Elijah seeks God in the tiny sound. He heard the Lord
say to him, "Go outside and stand on the mountain before the Lord..."
(1 Kgs 19:11a). Our world gets chaotic quite often, do we listen for the
"tiny whispering sounds" Elijah heard? Does the contrast stop us in
our tracks and make us wonder? As followers of Jesus Christ, we are a holy
people responsible for paying attention to the "whisper" of truth,
justice, kindness and peace.
In
the Responsorial Psalm we acclaim, "Kindness and truth shall meet; justice
and peace shall kiss" (Ps 85:11). Do you ever wonder where God is? Let us
remember that our heavenly Father is in the Sacraments and rituals of the
Church. God is in the routines and rhythms of our modern day life. He shares in
our triumphs and tragedies, gains and losses. God knows all about pain and
suffering through the Cross and knows the crown of glory. So when the storms
come, we can trust that Jesus is near. He invites us to walk through the
challenging times with Him. We will never be stranded!
Here
are some questions to reflection upon:
Do you doubt? Do you suffer? Are you afraid? Where do you go to find
peace?

Center,
"Joy
is the infallible sign of the presence of God."
