TIME FOR EVERYTHING
We say that time heals all wounds. When we are uncertain about
the outcome of an event, we reluctantly admit that time will tell. The author,
Thomas Mann, wrote that time cools and clarifies our moods. Of course time does
none of these things; rather, it is the condition in which they happen.
Time is God's gift. Many of us complain that we do not have
enough time to complete a task. For some of us, however, we still wouldn't
finish even if we had all the time in the world! How we use our time is more important
than how much time we have. Jesus, in a relatively short span of life, founded
the Church and accomplished the salvation of the world.
The fact is that we almost always find time for what we like or
want to do. We should consider how many hours a day we consume in reading the
paper or watching television. Some of that time is needed to keep up with
events and to enjoy needed relaxation, but we must judge whether we are using
our time well.
In a fast moving, noisy world most of us need time for peace and
quiet to pray and to reflect on life and its values. For at least some part of
the day we need to shut off the radio, the stereo, and the television. We need
to lay aside our newspapers, magazines, and other distractions. We must make
time to be alone with God.
The most import moments of the day are those times spent at Mass. But even the Mass
does not exhaust our relationship with God. The Mass is worship by and with the
community. It is God's family at prayer. We are each individuals with
particular needs. Alone with God we should tell Him of our personal failures
and successes, our joys and sorrows, our worries and concerns. Then we need to
listen in order to open our minds to hear God speaking to us in the quiet.
Life is short. It would be a shame to waste it on meaningless
activity. The first reading today tells us there is a time for everything, but
time by itself accomplishes nothing. It is an opportunity, nothing more. It is
up to us to use our time well for what really matters in life.

mình là một phụ nữ nghèo goá chồng, sống với hai đứa con nhỏ.
Một ngày nọ, khu phố bị mất điện đột ngột. Cô gái trẻ phải dùng
nến để thắp sáng. Một lát sau, có tiếng gõ cửa. Khi ra mở cửa, cô thấy đứa bé
con nhà hàng xóm.
Đứa bé hỏi: "Cô ơi
cô, nhà cô có nến không ạ?"
Cô gái trẻ nghĩ: "Chắc
nhà nó không có nến nên sang hỏi xin mình. Cho nó một lần, lần sau lại sang xin
nữa cho mà xem!" Thế rồi cô sẵng giọng: "Không có!"
Rồi cô mau tay đóng cửa lại! Nhưng đứa bé nhanh hơn, nó chìa ra
hai cây nến, mỉm cười nói với cô: "Cháu
biết ngay là nhà cô không có nến mà! Mẹ cháu sợ cô sống có một mình mà không có
nến nên bảo cháu mang nến sang cho cô dùng tạm."
Ai giàu hơn, ai nghèo hơn? Ngay cả một người nghèo
Trong cuộc sống của chúng ta cũng sẽ có những lúc như thế.
Dù con người sống trong hoàn cảnh khó khăn hay giàu có, họ đều cần
sự an ủi từ ai đó.
Đừng ích kỷ, hãy lắng nghe âm thanh cuộc sống.
Cuộc sống của ta sẽ không xấu, mà thậm chí nó còn đẹp hơn khi
chúng ta cho đi.
