HEAR
AND ACT ON HIS WORD
The prophet
Isaiah declares boldly: "Trust in the Lord forever! For the Lord is an
eternal Rock!" (Is 26:4). Psalm 118
reinforces the prophetic message: "It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in man" - even princes! (Ps 118:8-9). Jesus Christ describes
the consequences of choosing wisely those in whom to trust. Those who hear and
act on His word build on rock, on the eternal Rock who is God our Father. Those
who fail to act on Jesus' word build on sand, and their lives collapse (Matt
7:24-27).
We too are
challenged to hear and act on His word built on this eternal Rock, who is
God. Our Scripture readings told us in
one way or another to be open, receptive, ready to hear, see, and learn. Then the Lord will come and do new things in
us. Our part is to receive and accept, and then to put our faith in action-to
show some evidence of good will. The evidence for our good will is in the way
we treat each other, the poor, the sick and suffering.
God will be
our rock and our refuge. Is your life built upon the sure "rock" of
Jesus Christ?
