WHO WILL BE ABLE TO SEPARATE US?
"If God is for us, who
can be against us" (Rom 8:31b)?
The Gospel of Luke, today,
gives us a glimpse of Jesus on His journey as He pays the ultimate price for
our freedom. He is determined to fulfill His mission where other prophets
strived fulfilled theirs.
Saint Paul asks a very
interesting question in today's first reading: "If God is for us, who can
be against us" (Rom 8:31b)? We might think that a lot of people are
against us for a wide variety of reasons. For Paul, such an attitude only shows
how little we grasp and understand the love that our heavenly Father has for
you and me. His love was clearly demonstrated in the Incarnation, which reached
its climax in the death and resurrection of Jesus.
For those of us who believe
in Christ, a relationship has been established; a new covenant in His blood.
Paul believes that this relationship is so strong that absolutely nothing can
separate us from the powerful love of God, through Jesus Christ. I love this
passage in St. Paul's Letter to the Romans and I feel it is worth greater
reflection time. So here it goes again! "No, in all these things we
conquer overwhelmingly through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that
neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor present things,
nor future things, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature
will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord"
(Rom 8:37-39).
It is God who saves us in His
mercy!
