TEACH ME YOUR WAYS
There is a statue of the Sacred Heart of
Jesus that is placed in the front entrance of our retreat center. Inscribed at
the base of the statue are the words, "Discite a Me," which mean
"Learn from Me." In today's Responsorial Psalm we acclaim,
"Teach me Your ways, O Lord" (Ps. 25:4). "Your ways" are to
guide us and teach us to walk in Your path each and every day. God, You guide
us along the way as You keep Your covenant with us and ask us to keep our
covenant with You.
We are all called to spread the Word of
God, whether by word or deed. It is by living a strong and solid faith that we
are able to live as Jesus lived.
We have heard the two great commandments
all our lives. Every one of us could have answered the seeking scribe (cf. Mk.
12:28b). But how seriously have we taken those commandments to heart? The first
reading from St. Paul's
Letter to Timothy recalls the need for us to be faithful to Jesus Christ and to
be willing to give our lives to Him. We know that we will find Jesus today - in
everyone we meet - especially in the most vulnerable. But are we willing to
sacrifice our time and resources for their welfare? We are called to love them
with our whole heart, soul, mind, and strength. How can we say we love God if
we do not love those around us?
Our challenge with all of this is to
live out the Corporal Works of Mercy:
Feed the hungry
Give drink to the thirsty
Clothe the naked
Shelter the homeless
Visit the sick
Visit the imprisoned
Bury the dead
Give drink to the thirsty
Clothe the naked
Shelter the homeless
Visit the sick
Visit the imprisoned
Bury the dead

a Me"
