LOVE TRIUMPS EVERYTHING ELSE
From Genesis to Jesus and on to the end of time in this world, our
heavenly Father in Christ Jesus is all about healing and reconciling the world
and its people to Himself and to each other.
In today's Gospel
story of Jesus in Gentile territory, He is trying to "retreat" but is
interrupted by the "foreign" mother of a girl "with an unclean
spirit." Rules and taboos about contact with Gentiles and with a Gentile woman
no less, fail to prevail against the powerful, persistent love of this mom.
Jesus obviously agrees with her that restricting love to "insiders"
while discriminating against "outsiders" is not God's will. He heals
the girl, and that's the bottom line of it all!
In the Gospel Acclamation
we sing: Humbly welcomed the word that has been planted in you and is able to
save our souls.
We need to remember
that we are not alone on this journey nor alone on an island. We're all in this
together and we need each other. From Genesis to Jesus and on to the end of
time in this world, our heavenly Father in Christ Jesus is all about healing
and reconciling the world and its people to Himself and to each other. Truly!
This is what the Eucharist is all about.
We need to give
ourselves totally to God and give top priority to deepening our relationship
with Him through prayer.
