LOOK FEAR IN THE FACE
God is near and
available to quiet our fears. "It is I; do not be afraid... Come."
Jesus'
words to His terrified disciples by the stormy lake are, "Take courage, it
is I; do not be afraid. And Peter said to Him in reply, "Lord if it is
You, command me to come to You on the water. He said 'Come'" (Mt 14:27b -
29a). The composition of the Bible extends over nearly a thousand years and
includes changes in thinking about God. For us the final truth about God
appears in God's image - God's Word come to earth, Who is Jesus (see Jn 1:14).
His message is that in Him, God is near and available to quiet our fears.
"It is I; do not be afraid... Come."
Walking
on the sea, Jesus comes to the disciples. He is not only near but always moving
in our direction. It may not be so much a matter of our finding Him but of
recognizing the Lord's nearness. In our more quiet, less troubled moments,
developing a sense of our heavenly Father's presence can ultimately be some
help in our more challenging times.
Here
is a quote to reflect upon, "The best way out is always through"
(Robert Frost).
With
Jesus' help, can you look fear in the face?
