Daily reflection _ we live in the city of God

WE LIVE IN THE CITY OF GOD
In love He calls us to walk in His way of truth and freedom, grace and loving-kindness, etc., that we may live our lives always - on this earth with Him.
Deacon John Ruscheinsky
In today's Gospel we find this reproach. "If the Mighty deeds done in your midst, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would long ago have repented in sackcloth and ashes." Repentance requires change - a change of heart and way of life. God's word is life-giving and it saves us from that ruin which damages our heart, mind, and soul as well as our body. Jesus frustration was over sinful ways. He wants to help us avoid everything which hinders us from doing the will of our heavenly Father. In love He calls us to walk in His way of truth and freedom, grace and loving-kindness, etc., that we may live our lives always - on this earth with Him.
Many times we look for big miracles to happen, and many times we forget the biggest miracle already happened - Jesus. The great things that happen in our lives, all these are signs of God's love. God's love shines forth in other people's kindness, the beauty of a child, the faithfulness of spouses and dear friends, and even in the security and comfort we enjoy. Sensitive, grateful hearts don't need extraordinary signs in the heavenly skies or alterations in nature. We should be able to see in the ordinary world that surrounds us constant evidence of God's care and love. What we need is an attitude on our part which does not take the good around us for granted. We need to see that everything truly is a gift which comes all through Christ.
In the Responsorial Psalm we acclaim: Turn to the Lord in your need, and you will live. The Lord hears our prayers right here in the city we live in and the place we daily walk. Just as our city has foundations and monuments, gardens and streets; - the city of our dreams has all that in the perfection of its design and the glory of its architecture. It means planning, working together, living in harmony, and using nature's resources working for the common good.
May we today open our eyes and walk in faith in the city God has gifted us with.
